This will allow the battery health to be interogated amongst other things, but most importantly it will allow the vehicle charger in the garage to talk to the car over wifi to know how much range it has left. This can then be coupled with predicted mileage to work out how much charge is strictly required if there is no overall surplus solar production predicted.

With my current car and its 25 mile electric range this is less of an issue as I'll charge it from solar whenever I get the chance, but with a newer car with far greater potential range it makes a lot of sense.
